Kristie Hits Form At Amateur Titles

NEWCASTLE-born golfer Kristie Newton, the daughter of former international professional Jack Newton, won her way into the final 16 of the Australian Women's Amateur Championship at Lake Karrinyup, near Perth, yesterday with a 5 and 3 victory against fellow Victorian Tamara Fuller.
But Newcastle Golf Club champion Julie Swanson was eliminated in the round of 32 by Queensland teenager Haeji Kang 3 and 2.Defending champion and former Lake Macquarie winner Sarah Oh was beaten 1up by Claire Choi in her attempt to win both the Australian junior and senior titles in the same year.
